The singer brought down the house with a tribute to Carole King. BY JOANNA ROBINSON Aretha Franklin stole the entire night away from the Kennedy Center Honorees when she brought the house down during a barn burning rendition of Carole King’s “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.” The song, written by King but made world famous by Franklin, had a particularly strong affect on President Barack Obama. POTUS loves Franklin—she performed at his inauguration—and was caught wiping away a tear on camera as the singer sat down at a piano in a full-length fur coat. As if that wasn’t enough to wow the audience, Aretha reminded everyone why she’s the Queen of Soul when she regally removed the coat during one of the song’s crescendos. The camera also caught other famous audience members like George Lucas, Gina Rodriguez, and Rosie Perez singing along. But no one in the room seemed as quite ecstatic as King herself whose eloquent arm gestures spoke for us all. CUBA ENLARGE SLIDESHOW1/62015: The Year Obama Had No F--ks Left to Give CUBA Although he announced the thaw of U.S.-Cuba relations in 2014, Obama’s true D.G.A.F.-ness emerged as the two countries negotiated and planned the eventual re-establishment of diplomatic relations between America and a country so resolutely communist that America refused to talk to it for 50 years. But nothing showed Obama’s lack of fucks as much as his recent announcement that, when the moment arises in 2016, he wants to actually visit Cuba. Sure, the trip is contingent on him getting to talk to political dissidents (“Part of the deal is that I get to talk to everybody,” he told Yahoo! News). But for a president seen on the right as a pinko commie, this is a risky move. Admittedly, it’s easier when one has no fucks to give. By Anthony Behar-Pool/Getty Images.
