Britain's priciest studio apartment goes up for sale for more than £1million despite being no bigger than a London Tube carriage

  • The apartment, in Egerton Gardens, Knightsbridge is just 510 square feet and the bed is on a mezzanine floor
  • It is located opposite opposite Egerton Crescent, ranked regularly among the most expensive places in the world
  • Whoever buys the pad will also have to pay a £150 ground rent and £1,700 annual service charge
The priciest studio apartment in Britain has been put on the market for more than £1 million despite being the size of a Tube carriage.
It takes up just 510 square feet - similar to a London Underground train - with the occupant sleeping on a mezzanine floor.
But it is in Egerton Gardens, Knightsbridge - a posh London street opposite Egerton Crescent that gets ranked regularly among the most expensive places in the world.
The pad has a main studio area with a reception room and a kitchen. There is a separate shower room and toilet.
When time comes to sleep, the occupant climbs some stairs to the mezzanine area where there is room for a double bed.
This 510-square-foot apartment, located in Egerton Gardens, Knightsbridge, costs £1,175,000 - more than twice the price of the average home in London. It works out at £2,300 per square foot, making it the most expensive studio apartment for sale currently

The apartment was put onto the market this week with W.A Ellis, an estate agency in Knightsbridge, Chelsea and Kensington, for £1,175,000 - more than twice the price of the average home in London.
It works out at £2,300 per square foot, making it the most expensive studio apartment for sale currently.
But the property is still around an eighth of the price of a home in Egerton Crescent.
Simon Godson, director at W.A.Ellis, part of the JLL Group, said: 'The position of a property can really add to its value.
'The position of this Egerton Gardens property, south facing over the stunning crescent, really adds to its appeal and there are people who would rather be in a grand studio than a one bed flat that doesn't have such an exceptional outlook.'
On top of the asking price, whoever buys the leasehold studio will have to pay an additional £150 ground rent and £1,700 annual service charge.
